New NIV Visuals

Here’s a blog post with visual charts to show you the changes to the NIV over the years. The kind folks at Zondervan want you to read what God really meant with the words that He breathed.

  1. I’ve never tried out the NIV, as I doubted it would have the poetic quality of the KJV. For a while, though, I tried out the ESV, and imagined that I had found a modern version that would substitute…but I was wrong. It disappointed me in a few places, the most striking being the complete absence of the last half of the last verse in the Lord’s Prayer:

“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

Granted, there was a note at the bottom of the page that said “some manuscripts add “for yours is the kingdom…” But I thought it was such a lack of poetic taste to leave this phrase out that I just lost most of my interest in this version, and have gone back to the good old KJV. The Puritans, in spite of their faults, at least knew how to treat the Word of God with reverence!
