Colorado Shootings

The man doing the shootings in Colorado was apparently killed by suicide. Although he was shot by the security detail at New Life Church, it was his self-inflicted wound that did him in.

They have also found a number of his online rants about hating Christians. “”You Christians brought this on yourselves. All I want to do is kill and injure as many of you … as I can especially Christians who are to blame for most of the problems in the world.”

The security detail at the church claimed she was able to shoot so well because God was with her. “It seemed like it was me, the gunman and God.” I might doubt the inspiration on that one.

It also turns out Ms. Church Security Guard was a fired Minneapolis police officer who was fired for lying during an investigation about her cussing out a bus driver! Nice.

Also, the guy doing the shootings was a home-schooler, so they don’t just win spelling bees.

  1. Hey, Mr. Sensitive, I don’t get it. So, ‘splain yourself if you want to or don’t if you don’t.

    1) Are you suggesting that the Lord couldn’t/didn’t/wouldn’t help her in her time of need? Or that the fact that she didn’t kill him herself is proof that he couldn’t/didn’t/wouldn’t? That would be some interesting exegesis, there, I’m thinking.

    2) Is knowing at most 2 or 3 of the pertinent details surrounding the event that got her fired 10 years ago sufficient information to make judgements about her character today? Is there a statute of limitation on such judgementalism or does forgiveness and/or benefit-of-the-doubt kick in at some point?

    3) Does this lean slice of info about her scandalous past really mitigate or cheapen her recent heroism?

    4) I know pastors never say bad words or lie but, really, do you think maybe the Lord might forgive some of the rest of us who, you know, slip up every now and then.

    5) Okay, the home-schooling jibe makes perfect sense because everyone knows that kids who go to public schools are way too smart to go crazy and hurt anyone.

Of course, if there weren’t any big churches, this whole thing never would have happened, I guess.

  2. I have to agree with Barry’s comments… you don’t know what has transpired in her life since she got fired!

And the homeschooling thing is just offensive to say like that. This man killed people. And it’s not anything to joke about.

  3. After having made a slew of what appear to be rash statements, I would be glad to answer your questions about them.

    1) I don’t know if God helps people kill others. He did at times in the OT. The real question, I think, is how “turn the other cheek” applies to armed security guards in churches. They were ready, being in haggard’s old church no doubt sparked the plans. Her statment seemed odd to me, that’s all.

    2) The article brought up her past. I repeated it. I thought lying in an investigation about cussing bus drivers wasn’t a nice move, something she would no doubt agree with. I don’t recall making any other judgments concerning her present state.

    5) My comment about homeschooling was in response to every time a kid shoots up a public school every Christian says, “Well, yeah, that’s what happens when you take God out of the public schools.” Perhaps we forget that sinners are also in our homes.

    6) Well played.
