Peace That Passes Understanding

There has always been a desire for peace. We desire peace in our world, we desire peace in our families and we want it in our hearts as well.

Unfortunately, as long as this world stands, there won’t be much of it. Even Jesus said he did not come to bring peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34).

How can the One who brought a sword offer us peace?

Christians frequently mention God’s peace and how great it is and how it passes understanding (Philippians 4:7). But how do you get this peace?

You get it by thinking on pure and good things (Philippians 4:8). You also get it by doing the things the Bible says to do. Many believers are hung up on this stuff about “being and not doing.” This is also a main reason why so few believers have peace.

Doing what the Bible says and thinking on the good things it directs you to is the way to get God’s peace. Peace is not automatic; peace is contrary to this world. Peace must be sought out and worked for.

If you don’t have peace in your life there is a reason why: you aren’t doing what God’s Word says.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Philippians 4:9
