The Dork Side

My wife and I have agreed on most of our parenting ideas. The biggest “discussion” has taken place over whether my boy should wear sandals. I’m opposed to it. I’m losing. I’m also opposed somewhat to overall-short outfits.

This is not as bad as the day my girls were having a tea party and they all dressed up in dresses and then proceeded to put my boy in a dress. My boy did not object. In fact, he walked around the house saying “I pretty.”

If the boy joins the dark side, I will always be able to blame my wife. It’s not like I didn’t tell her. Train up a child in the way he should go and he won’t depart from it. That works both ways you know.

Pray for my boy.

  1. For what it’s worth, I’m with you on the sandals thing.

I’ve had a similar discussion with my wife on the dorkiness of clogs on children of either sex.

  2. I think if we lived in a hotter climate we probably wouldn’t be questioning sandals.

  3. Maybe she’s just raising him to be a ‘metrosexual’. You know, the manly-man that’s not afraid of this feminine side, the one that appreciates the hip things in life, the one that knows how to dress, decorate and purchase the upscale, finer things in life. It might help you feel better about it at least. But my husband didn’t buy it for our boy.

  4. You know, I’m going to agree with Todd on this one.

And, by the way, he’s adorable in the picture and is not a dork at all.

  5. I’m pretty sure my wife is not going for the metrosexual look, however, neither of us are opposed if he ended up getting us the finer things in life. I don’t like them because they are hard to get on, that’s basically my problem with them. I don’t know, a nice shoe or boot looks so good, why mess with good?

  6. Just be glad your wife isn’t from West Virginia and you have to fight the barefoot thing.

I have to fight that with my daughter and I’ve already lost the sandals thing with my oldest. My only hope is that college will change him.
